Ambassador Stener explained, “Cooperation in the Arctic Council has been challenging since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. But under Norway’s chairmanship, we’ve managed to get working groups operational again, and we appreciate India’s active participation. We also hope to involve India in future initiatives related to the cryosphere, covering not just the Arctic but also glaciers worldwide.”

Renewable Energy and the Blue Economy

Climate change remains a cornerstone of India-Norway relations, with renewable energy at the heart of future cooperation. Norway, a global leader in hydropower and green technologies, is poised to support India’s ambitious renewable energy goals. “Norway is committed to helping India achieve its targets in areas like hydropower and solar energy,” Stener said.

The blue economy is another area where the two nations share common ground. Norway’s expertise in sustainable ocean resource management, combined with India’s vast coastline, creates opportunities for joint initiatives in marine pollution control, fisheries management, and ocean governance.

The India-Nordic Summit: Paving the Way for a New Era

The India-Nordic Summit, which will see participation from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland, will serve as a key platform for India to deepen its engagement with the Nordic region. Discussions will focus not only on trade and investment but also on technology transfer, climate innovation, and sustainable development. As global geopolitical dynamics shift, this summit could prove crucial for both India and Norway, setting the stage for a future of expanded cooperation.

With a focus on renewable energy, maritime technology, and sustainable development, the evolving partnership between India and Norway is set to become a model of global cooperation, addressing critical challenges such as climate change and economic growth.
